Twitter may soon add more options for how users interact with tweets, including the ability to hide and unhide tweets alongside other moderation options.
As discovered by Jane Manchun Wong on Twitter, code within 
Twitter's Android app tipped Wong off to this feature being in development. Michelle Yasmeen Haq, Twitter's Project Manager for Health, confirmed that reply moderation tools are in development.
Haq described these tools as doing the following:
"With this feature, the person who started a conversation could choose to hide replies to their tweets. The hidden replies would be viewable by others through a menu option."
Users raised concerns that this feature could be used to silence critics and spread potential falsehoods and disinformation, which Haq also contested:
"We think the transparency of the hidden replies would allow the community to notice and call out situations where people use the feature to hide content they disagree with. We think this can balance the product experience between the original Tweeter and the audience."
Though the ability to view these hidden tweets will certainly help combat against misuse of the feature, critics have pointed out the potential for some uninformed or lazy users to simply not dig deeper by enabling these hidden tweets to be shown.
No timetable has been given for when these additional Twitter reply moderation tools will be implemented.
